Exercise Management
Australasia Business Consultants (WA) Pty. Ltd. (ABC) can provide exercise management services at any level, from simple drills to train and practice client staff to evacuate the site to safe refuge right through to a major exercise involving simulated incidents, immediate and continuing response, internal and external emergency service assistance, media management, welfare response, reporting, business continuity and recovery.
In addition ABC can also provide exercise management training for client staff to conduct drills and minor exercises, thus enabling internal resources to accept ownership and responsibility for ongoing maintenance and monitoring of Crisis and Emergency Management Response (CEMR) competency standards.
Each step in the development process towards achieving an effective robust system of CEMR is important but one can safely say that the most rewarding outcome of all the time and expense of CEMR development is to witness a well managed exercise that confirms that identified objectives have been tested, that the system is robust, that competence has been demonstrated, that lessons have been learnt and that client staff are confident that their company can cope with CEMR.
Some examples of ABC exercise types and their uses are:
| Drills | Used to train staff and to practice plans and procedures that are designed to produce a routine response to ‘on site’ emergency alarms, alerts, etc. |
|---|---|
| Desktops | Used in training to create a situation that requires a response from individuals or teams to problem solve a developing scenario to a secure resolution. This is a classroom exercise controlled and staffed by a facilitator only. |
| Simulations | Used in training to create a realistic scenario to practice individuals and teams using audio and visual inputs to simulate a developing situation requiring information gathering, assessments, problem solving, prioritising, planning, decision making, delegation, reporting and other problem solving techniques. This is a team training exercise staffed by a facilitator and role play assistants. |
| Practical Exercises | Practical exercises may be used in training and/or to test plans and procedures. They involve the use of personnel and equipment and are staged using a real time scenario requiring a physical response to given situations. A practical exercise should be used to test new or amended plans and procedures or techniques and to verify team competencies at all levels at least annually or more frequently as the need arises. |
